My Brother who calls me "Bro"

My little brother who calls me "bro". This is his family. Let me introduce them to you. Starting with Mich (my sister-in-law),  the 3 boys JP1, JP2 and JP3 (new edition) and then of course my "Brahdur".   I haven't seen them since March of 2004 in the Philippines when Inang Baket passed away. It was nice talking to both of you last week. Ay, agbirthday gayam ni JP2 this week, anya? Ket agpa-party kayo?  Well, take care.   Love and miss you guys.

Last week in June

Warrior 1 went to a week long Scout camp up at PUPUKEA.  He earned a couple of merit badges. He worked  hard.  He had a blast.  Scout Master said he was a crack up.  Throwing a one word or his two cents to a conversation that made those in his troop  laugh.  When asked what he liked about camp....he said "the food." and giggled.  What?!  That's it?  His favorite  was Thursday night's dinner.  It was steak and shrimp.    He said he really enjoyed working with his pocket knife.     Forgot to take his medication but was fortunate to not have any seizures.   Anyway, he survived camp.   No, mosquito bites compared to that first overnight camp they had last year.  Choke bites!  Well, Friday we were able to  attend their LUAU and saw how and where they lived for a week.   After dinner, we went to their camp site and there Warrior 2 and Warrior 3 entertained themselves playing with sticks until the 8 o'clock bonfire. We stayed until 10 o'clock and watched the different troops perform their songs and skits.  It took them a while to get the bonfire going and when it did....it was a big fire that went out pretty quickly  before the skits ended.   Had to use flashlights to shine at the boys doing their thing.  Some funny and others not so funny.  It reminded me of girls camp.  Some songs brought back memories of yesteryear.  There was this one troop who came all the way from TEXAS (loved their spirits)... and man they were a loud bunch of boys who had great  enthusiasm alright.  They wore their a very bright version of  an aloha shirt  and they had their troop numbers sewed on their straw hats.    How about that?  eeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaw!    Our troops  did the HAKA as the finale in honor of the very first boy scout in HAWAII who is 97 years old  and was present that evening ( forgot his name --I'll find out later) anyway, after the Haka was done Texas became very quiet.   They didn't know what to think I guess.

Now, that camp is  over.  Warrior 1's troop now have to fund raise to pay back  Uncle Andy and raise money for the troop.  PLATE LUNCH /$5  (chicken katsu, mac salad, fish cake noodles)  Warrior 1 needs to sell 20 tickets.  He has 16 tickets left.  This is for the 19th of July.  Interested in purchasing a ticket or two  give us a ring.  TITA 96762  and Mr. Tonga  thanks for your support!   We will see you later tonight for FHE.  The kids are looking forward to the activity prior to our FHE and dinner.  =)

I haven't been eating good this week.   I tried to eat more greens but  cravings for sweets dominated.   Aside from my yoga twice a week... I failed to wake up and go walking with Aunty Raine at 5 am Thursday....I was just too tired.  So we, tried again Friday and I was able to get up!  yippee!    I hope I wake up tomorrow to do some jump roping. =)  Oh, yeah!  I finally bought myself another stability ball.   This time I will not take it outside  for the kids to play with.  Last time I did that, it made a PUKA (abot, butas, hole).

It's been really hot lately.  NO BREEZE whatsoever.  HOTsu!  Sticky and so napudot (hot) man.  My back and my head hurt, I crave for chocolate and anything sweet. Yup, you've guessed it!  It's that time of the month.

Well, it's the last day of the month and I still haven't done my visiting teaching yet.  My companion went on a vacation and I told her that I would  drop our message to our visiting teach-ees.   (I just cracked my upper back.)   This month's message  and some homemade oatmeal chocolate chip with Hershey's dark chocolate and almonds would have to count as our visiting teaching this month.  Hey, my companion is gone so that will do for now.

Next month is going to be busy.    Starting with the 4th of July celebration at  Turtle Bay.  (KCC will be fundraising for their trip to Carnegie Hall next summer.)  Uncle Lee and Aunty Jenn will be here this weekend.  Aunty Raine and I will be attending a pre/post natal yoga training.  Then we have ward camp.  My honeybuns is busy at the moment trying to get things ready for this big event.  Warrior 1's plate lunch fundraiser on the 19th and the end of the month...the kids go back to school.   That's some short summer.

Belated Happy Birthday to Lauren (6/22), LavaLava (6/27) and Aunty Kuulei (6/28).
Belated Happy 38th year Anniversary to Mama and Papa (6/28).
Kathy and Kyle  belated happy anniversary to you, too.  I just remembered we were married the same day!

What a Week!

Since last Friday....what has happened at the Gooey Goos house.

6/14/08 Saturday     Gooey Babes counted and sorted Warrior 3's coins and put them in rolls.  Turned them over to the bank.  Did some food shopping.  Made dinner for a friend who just had a baby.   The kids and moih were going  ballistic.  Went for a walk, Warrior 3  not feeling so good.  Got fever and the runs.   Missed Daddy's call  4:30 pm.  He wanted us to meet him in town to watch a movie but didn't get his message until 7:30 pm.  =( gooey babes sad.

6/15/08  Sunday Father's Day!  Gooey Babes made breakfast for the King.  Eggs, sausage and pancakes with boysenberry sauce.  Princess made Mickey mouse shaped pancakes with chocolate chips.   yumm!  after which they presented the King with their homemade gifts.  (cards, cookies and a ROCK!)  A rock that says "Dad, U ROCK! "   funny ha ha.    I didn't cook this evening... the King's steak dinner was made by the King himself.  I don't do well with steaks and fire.  I end up burning them and making them all tough.

6/16/08  Monday Princess went to piano.  Warrior 2 woke up not feeling good.  Had a fever and headache.  Slept in until 10 am (when I dragged him in the car to go to Nuuanu...at the ALOHA COUNCIL to purchase Warrior 1 and 2's  scout uniforms.  OH, MY GULAY! (goo-lai = vegetable)  Sooper EXPENSIVE!  Hold on someone's donging and dinging the doorbell.  okay that was Mrs. Au across the street she just gave me a whole bag of ripe MANGOES she just picked this morning!  YUMMY-LiSCIOUS!  Thank you Mrs. AU!   Anyway, talk about expensive uniforms.   Warrior 2 was sick alright..he had no energy to do anything.  We had peace and quiet.   Lucky he never threw up in the car.   Hold that thought Warrior 3 just finished reading 1. Horrible Harry and the Christmas Surprise  2. Horrible Harry and the Triple Revenge in 4o minutes and wants me to record it in his log book. (The gooey babes are participating in this summer reading program they have at the Library.  They get weekly treats as rewards. The older kids however get a treat for every book that is read.  Princess got about 10 in a week.)  Okay, where was I?  Warrior 2 sick.  We got home and he continued to sleep..hardly ate anything.  Got him some popsicles.

6/17/08 Tuesday   Warrior 2 still sick.  Fever and the runs.  Missed Cub Scout Day Camp.  Took the princess to a pool party.  Door-to-door guy finally came to pick up my boxes.  Taught YOGA.  Had a meeting.  (The king was released from being the Gospel Doctrine teacher.  He is now the new Ward Activities Chairperson.)  I just sat and listen to them plan the activities.  The ward CAMP coming up in July.  Someone was  grumpy, snappy and barked at me today. The big Kahuna.  The big dog.  Several times this week actually (no patience).  But I just try to understand --any person out of whack, sick, or imbalanced  could snap.  Nothing personal.    Or is it just KARMA?  Karma from nagging and snapping at my kids all day.    Anyway...let's move on.

6/18/08 Wednesday Warrior 2 still not 100%  but didn't want to miss the last 2 days of camp.  Went to the clinic to get warrior 1's physical form filled  out, stopped at the library and lucky us we got there just in time.  For reading time and the people from Bishop Museum came and presented all the different creepy crawly insecto.  Warrior 1  totally loved it!

Had a meeting in preparation for Warrior 1's week long  camp at PUPUKEA.  (just dropped him off this morning).  The King comes home sick.  What's up with that?  Everyone taking turns getting sick.  The princess and moih goes for a walk/jog to BYU.  Got home.  Jump roped.  Showed Princess some cheer leading jumps I used to do.  What was I thinking?  Boy, my legs and butt have never felt so heavy that take off was awful and landing traumatic.   My mind was telling me one thing while the body another.  I didn't not however attempt to do an eagle.  I'm not that crazy.  Felt my QUADS the next day, alright.

6/19/08 Thursday.   The King is sick.   Baked cookies. Princess called around and was taking bread orders.  Went with the kids door-door at TVA (BYU-H student married housing) to sell the goodies.   Warrior 1 had Court of Honor.  Received a couple of merit badges.  Princess went with her brother to represent but later found out that the other 2 Warriors and  the sick King ended up going as well.  Went to YOGA class.

6/20/08  Friday The king stayed home from work today.  Baked some goodies.  Ate some.  shared some and sold the rest.  Met mom at the commissary.  Did a little bit of food shopping.

6/21/08 Saturday Baked and sold some cookies.  Looked after Maidy's kids while she attended a session at the temple.  Warrior 3 was so cute!  Warrior 3 ran to the kitchen and quickly grabbed a paper towel.  Turned ran to the sink and turned the water on to wet the paper towel and then ran back to Wyatt.    Come to  find out that Wyatt just had a smudge of melted chocolate chips on the side of his mouth.

6/22/08  Sunday Went  to church.  Got good seats on the left side facing the pulpit.  Got there on time.  =)  woohoo!  Taught my YW Laurels today combined with the MIA MAIDS.  Ate lots of junk today.  Melon with evaporada and asukar which I put in the freezer on Saturday.  OISHII ne.  Had cake and ice cream next door.  It was Drama Queen's 4th birthday.    Did we miss Lauren's birthday Glet?  When is her birthday again?  I know bad aunty.

I Have a Loose Toof...

Warrior 3 has another loose toof {From the center, bottom right next to the adult teeth}. He lost his first 2 teefs the end of last year and I was looking through my pictures and saw this video clip.  I thought it was cute.  Below the  clip is a tooth poem I heard over and over from Mrs. C's  kindie  class.  They always recited a lot of poems every day and this is one of them.  It's so adorable!  I can still hear in my head how these high pitched kids recited this poem.  Some of them TOOFLESS!  da cute!

I Had a Loose Tooth

I had a loose tooth, a wiggly, jiggly loose tooth.
I had a loose tooth, hanging by a thread.

So I pulled my loose tooth, this wiggly, jiggly loose tooth.
And put it 'neath the pillow when I went up to bed.

The fairies took my loose tooth, my wiggly, jiggly loose tooth.
So now I have a nickel and a hole in my head.

Bored!

Wow!  First week of summer break and the kids are driving each other nutsoooo and me,  too.  We had a lesson on being good friends  for FHE and how it supposed to start at home and all that good stuff.    Well, the wiring inside their coconut shells apparently went to dysfunction mode that evening from the BONKERS game we did after the lesson.  Because the next day it was forgotten!

Anyway,  I think  they are still "high" from all the activities  at the last week of school. {waterpark, parties, sleepovers and a lot of beach}.   They were constantly craving  for fun.  I know, who doesn't?  Get this,  we've had three sleepovers within 5 days and so they've been staying up late and sleeping in late as well.  By the time they wake up, the day is over!  They eat and then they want to go to the beach and play some more.   "Can we go and jump on Aunty Plain Jane's  trampoline? " "Can so and so come over?"  Man, what's up with these kids now-a-days?  Boredom seem to quickly creep in their system.  Whatever happened to just staying home and doing some work and learning to play with one another?  Oh, excuse me?   Who will do our chores for us?  We don't have a maid or cook!  Do I really want to clean the house?  Of course not but it needs to be done.

So, yesterday was another day.  Sparing you all the details, the Gooey Goos were being annoying.  Fingertips scratching that black board kind of annoying to each other.  Cube that.  Blood pressure boiling hot.  Steam forcing its way out of my nostrils and ears.  I finally had it. Got my magic wand.  Worked its magic.  Then peace and quiet followed.  NO TV.  NO DS.  NO COMPUTER.  NO PLAYSTATION.  NO PLAY!  NOTHING FUN!   {i can be mean}

Well, that was yesterday.  Today is another day and I'm sure enjoying the peace quiet.  Baking 10 loaves of bread  (as I am typing right now) 8 for YW Camp pot-luck dinner tonight and 2 for us. Meanwhile the Gooey Goos are quietly doing their math,  reading and writing in their journals.  Oh, happy day!

Mind Reader

I want to help you.
Sometimes I just don't know how.
I know.   Call me clueless.
Sometimes I just have a hard time guessing {what is wanted or not}
I know.  How clueless.
Should I do this?  Should I do that?
Do you want this or do you want that?
Just tell me.
I know you are in pain.  You say you are okay.
But I can see clearly you are not.
It would really help out if you just told me
I can't read minds so don't pout
If I don't do what is on your mind.
Please, don't leave me guessing.
I really want to help out.

A Day at Hukilau....

Classmate from kinder to 4th grade

I knew her as Rhodora Grace Rodillas back in my hometown of Laoac, Pangasinan, Philippines.  We went to school together.  I think this was the 3rd time we've seen each other since I left the Philippines over 25 years ago.  She now resides in Singapore with her growing family.  We were fortunate to spend a couple of hours at her sister's home eating and chatting.   She never changed!  She never runs out of things to talk about.   She is full of fun!

I knew she loved to eat bread in place of rice so I decided to make rolls and  wrapped some hot dogs with the same dough.  Oh, had to make them moist and gooey Ghiraldelli Brownies.  Ket naimas met lang aya, kabsat?
Euli and Marco, thank you for the delicious BBQ and sea food.   Naimas iti agkam-met!  It was great eating with my hand.  Kinnan ko amin diay inyawid ko nga crab and shrimp.  The kids loved your spaghetti and manok (chicken).  Naibus konam man judge.

Thanks for the Salonpas and the Omega.  It relieved the pain in my shoulder.  I will continue to use it no agsakit-manen iti bagi.

The King and Moih

The king and moih will celebrate our 14th Anniversary on the 25th of this month.  Has it been that long?  Long and hard.  Up and down.  Smooth and turbulent.  Wet and dry.  North and south.  Bitter and sweet.   Sad and happy.    I don't know about you but marriage is a lot of work.   It could be an emotional  roller coaster  which can be physically draining  at times.  (California Screamin'  and Splash Mountain though....IT ROCKS!  Talk about adrenaline rush.  Exhilarating and Intoxicating!! I want to go again!)  I know, life is not a fairy tale!   You have to actually sweat and  work at it.

I read this somewhere "If life were easy then it wouldn't be hard."   Duhr!   I know, nobody said it was going to be easy.  Why, did you expect it to be?    helluhr?!  We have to constantly adjust.   Some days are good.  Others not so good.   Like in yoga class,  depending on the stresses of the day...we sometimes are not able to do certain poses we usually do with ease.  We struggle with some, while flow with  the others.  Some we can't even do at all.  Just because your body is telling you "no, thank you".    And you know what?  That is totally okay.  Just focus on the present moment.    Speaking of PRESENT MOMENT.  I know I'm rambling on.    I don't think I'm crazy but... is it just me or are there others like me that "if you can't handle the heat...you don't get out of the kitchen."  Instead you start wiping the counter tops, start washing the dishes,  sweep the floor, put the dishes away and etc."  OOOOOOOOOO!  The king hates that.  I don't know why but I just automatically start to clean when things heat up.  Yup, focus on the present moment...the argument instead of cleaning moment. =)  Just wondering how many of you out there do the same thing.    Yes, after all these years I'm still learning,  still adjusting.  Even with all these oppositions in life....I can't complain.    I really have a lot to be grateful for.  We have a roof over our heads, food in our bellies and clothes to keep us warm.   We also have each other's company, 4 bootiful and sometimes handful but helpful children.   What more could I ask for?  He is Drug FREE.  (except for his meds and his daily dose of Aleve to relieve his aches and pains) The king doesn't drink or smoke.  Doesn't go clubbing.  I know because he is home playing games with the kids.  Playstation that is.   Although, I sometimes complain about that.   But the fact that he is home.  It's all good.  Really.

Did I mention that he is a great cook?  Yup! The King is a great cook!  I didn't know how to cook when we first got married.  It was never my forte. Even to this day.  I had to learn to cook.  I have been very fortunate to stay home and develop some homemaking skills.  Needed to feed the Gooey Babes physically, mentally and spiritually.  I couldn't let them starve.  With each child I grew larger.  Gained more...you know that good stuff.. {Ef-ay-teee}.  Along with that, I believe comes great  knowledge and experience .  Ha ha!  Gets mo ba? (get it?)

This is rare that we will actually be celebrating our special day together because we are usually separated in the Summer time.  He is usually home alone while the kids and I go somewhere fun.  Happy Anniversary, Honeybuns!   I wonder what we're going to do?    Do you know?  NO, I don't know.   (He hates it when the kids and I say "I don't know.")  What should we do?  (FYI, i'm the boring one.  The KING, he is the fun and creative one)

Warrior 2's Birthday Party and sleep over.

Warrior 2's  birthday party was Thursday.  Just invited a few friends over to just enjoy the evening.  Check out these tins!   They are little playstation 3 tins!  How cool is that?  It was perfect for his party.  King Honeybuns got them at GameStop.  They were Warrior 2's favors for the party.  We just filled them with jelly bellies.  Honeybuns  and the Warriors also made a  a big remote control for our game (pin the bottons on the remote control).  They did a lot of coloring alright. We had them guess how long the cord  of a remote control.  Played hot potato using the  the cordless remote but instead of saying hot potato we said "Playstation".  For the pinata, Honeybuns got the playstation 3 box (which he kept since December--didn't know it would come in handy until this day), scored the inside and filled it with celery and carrots!  Nah, just kidding.  He filled it with a couple bags of chocolate, candies, suckers and  candy leis  from Princess's graduation the day before!  Hey, just recycling  anyway we can, right?  Wasn't that  a clever idea for a pinata?    Great thinking, Honeybuns!  Well, for the sleepover....the kids enjoyed themselves.  They had so much energy... they stayed up until five in the morning playing games!   Hellooooooooooooooooooooooow!

My Walking Partners

Plain Jane and Tita 96...along with the girls and *Mr. Tonga right after their morning walk, still managed to come to congratulate Warrior 3 with hugs and leis.

LavaLava, Hip Chic (for now until), KneeC, Warrior 3 and Drama Queen in her ballerina stance.

a new DS dunderwear!

Warrior 2 had a birthday yesterday.  Made cupcakes for his class and that was it.  I was busy inputing data for Coach K's study (it needed to get done) so "no moh nohting" for his birthday.  King Honeybuns cooked.  We ate dinner, cleaned up..  played UNO and sang him a happy birthday song.  We said our prayers and gave hugs.   What a birthday, eh?    Hey, he is having a Playstation 3 Party on Thursday.  i know i need to be better at these things.

Today, the King had a surprise for him.  It's a DS! ooooooooo!  It's a DS! SCORE!   A  DS!  ...ooooppss....it's not.

"whoah!  those are humangous!"  says Warrior 3

                                              Thank you , Daddy.

Awards Assembly

Monday, Warrior 3 received an award.   He received Top Academic Scholar from his class.

Today, our little warrior graduated.   They had a little program..they marched in the cafeteria, sang songs, received their diplomas and marched back out.  Our warrior is hugged by his teacher.  She is the bomb!   She is one awesome teacher.  She has great love for the children.  We are fortunate to have her as a teacher.  She not only taught the kids, she spoiled them, too!  She gave them treats that related to whatever they were learning.  Her room is like a candy store and a toy store.  From gummies, to jelly bellies, ding dongs, rice krispie treats, twinkies, M&Ms, and many more.  Can you believe that she gave each boy a Bionicle for their graduation present and the girls...she gave each one  a necklace with a pearl pendant which she made.  She is
so generous and  talented.  Thank you Mrs. P for all the work that you put into helping our keikis learn.  Thank you for making learning fun.  Warrior 3 had a blast in your class.  His favorite was purchasing the Bionicle when he finished his BLUE PHONICS plus paying you with over 400 stars that he had accumulated in his star card.  Thank you.  Oh, yeah!  Great job sewing all the kids' costumes for May Day!

I blew it!

Yup!  I blew it at the Activity Day Dinner on Friday!   The girls looked so  cute in their matching black and white vests.    I regret not bringing my camera.  They totally looked the part of  chic waitresses.  They served us well.   We had breakfast for dinner (pancakes topped with strawberries, syrup and whipped cream, bacon and scrambled eggs).  To top that, they were serving  brownies with more whip cream and chocolate covered strawberries.   How can I say no to that? It was very DE'LISH.  The girls and of course Sis. K.C.  did a wonderful job.  Thanks for the memorable evening.

Saturday was another day.  I did a load of laundry and it's still in the basket waiting to be folded and put away.   I needed to stock up on toilet paper, paper plates, ziploc bags, laundry soap, chickem, foil, clorox, gummie vitamins, etc.   The kids love it when we go to Costco because they get FREE food!   They're happy.  I'm happy.  It's all good.   So, I did my Costco run.  Left at 10.... got there at 11 ....shopped for an hour... got back at 1...took Warrior 3 at a birthday party while Warriors 1 & 2  and Princess put the stuff away.  There goes my 3 hours  of  Saturday.  While Warrior 3 was at the party,  Warrior 2 wanted to go to the beach.    So, we  walked to Hukilau.  It had good waves.  They had fun!  Warrior 2 met up with several of his friends there.  He scored!

I, on the other hand  couldn't go in the water.  I wanted to take a nap but didn't bring any towels or mats to lie on.  I was not prepared  so I had to accommodate.   I just sat tall with my legs crossed, gently closed my eyes, rested my hands on my legs  and  ...sigh...a moment of BLISS. (1 mississippi, 2 mississippi, 3 mississippi)  "Snap out of it girlfriend!"   uh-huh.   That didn't last.  I still had to keep my eyes on the children!  After an hour we went home.  While the kids were showering, picked up Warrior 3.  All are safe and home.

King Honeybuns  took us to eat at Papa Ole's.   The kids ordered mahi burgers (they are 'ono' -naimas, masarap, yummy, oishii) and teriyaki steak burgers,  I didn't like what I ordered.   I really liked what King Honeybuns ordered.  He got the chicken and shrimp plate.    Anyway,  went for a drive to Kaneohe...gala-gala (short for gallivanting) at the mall,  had dessert at Ben and Jerry's.   ugh!   why can't  I just say no to  ice cream?

Went to see Indiana Jones.  It was an  okay movie.  It wasn't great at all.  I enjoyed  the popcorn, mochi crunch and skittles, though.  yikes!  I sound like a total junkie each time  I mention what I've eaten.  Something needs to change.  I wonder if  there are support groups  for people like me who can't seem to stop eating sweets?   Hmmmmmm.  Haven't you heard of the word moderation?   What a day?  I can't complain.
I didn't have to teach my Laurel's class today.  The YW presidency will now cover 1st Sundays of every month. yippee!  I can go to R.S.!

I just now opened the book, "Stand a Little Taller" to page 160 and the message for today reads...."Believe in yourself.  Believe in your capacity to do great and good and worthwhile things.  Believe in the nature within you,  the divine nature, that you are in very deed a son or daughter of the living God.  There is something of divinity within you, something that stands high and tall and noble.  Get above the dirt and filth of the earth and walk on a higher plane with your heads up, believing in yourselves and in your capacity to act for good in the world and make a difference."
That is a great message. We are all sons and daughters of God. We have divine potentials. We just have to remember that.
