Well, we survived camp! I'm caught up with the laundry. Washed all the sleeping bags and put all the camping stuff away. One week of camp is too long! Well, that's just my opinion. It didn't feel like a vacation. It was a lot of work. The King did a lot, setting up the water pipes, building the shower, putting up the big screen anchored between two trees and lights. Thanks to Bro. Hammond, the
Keni Clan, the
Fakatava Clan and everyone in the activities committee.
I didn't keep a daily log of what happened. I'm going to attempt to try to dig deep in the crevices of my brain what happened the week of camp. Wish me Luck and for those of you who were there...you can add on.
7/14 Lunes
Woke up bright and early to take the EZ corner down. By 6am we were at the campsite (Cricket Field) setting up. Unload, set up and back home to grab more stuff. Set up all day. Fire Department came to hose hot campers in the middle of the field. yey! Thank You to the Hammonds for making this possible! To Uncle Eric Hammond and his crew, much majellos. It cooled us off! When R you coming back to yoga?
Finished building the shower at around 5pm, King started to build the slip and slip. I mean slip- n- slide. Ran to Foodland to get stuff for dinner. Came back kids are slipping and sliding. We ate good! We had pasta alfredo with spinach, shrimp and tomato. Fried noodles, yummy greens with craisins and other stuff in it, had brownies and banana cream pie. Camping food mmmmmm very Delish. Had FHE with the Keni and Fakatava Clans. We the GOOeys were in charge of the lesson. All have been busy all day so we started super late. Just shared a thought from my YW lesson on Sunday "OBEDIENCE is the first law of Heaven." If we obey parents, teachers, the law, the commandments, rules and etc....we can be happy, we can have peace, have order, we won't get in trouble and all that wonderful stuff. After dinner, kids played softball until dark like almost 11 (with lights of course). Went home, took shower and came back ....I was beat and crashed.
7/15 Martes
Devotional. Keni Ohana were in charge. Forgot the songs we sang. “Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Til your good is better and your better is best.” Had breakfast. We hiked. Tita 96762 led the way. Slip and slide again, hang out in the Fktv's kiddie pool. Left at 5:30 to get ready for Yoga class. Ice Breaker games by the Tovey family in the evening, smores and movie under the moon. A burst of showers here and there. The kids stayed up late playing cards.
7/16 Merkules
Devotional..the Nortons were in charge. I missed it. I ran home to get stuff. Made pinatas. Scavenger hunt and games by the Bean Family. Broke a different pinata. Water games by Aunty Rose and her gang.
Down time. Had 2 unsupervised children come to the camp site. (this was their 2nd time) This one 12 or 13 year old boy got in the kiddie pool (The pool was right in front of the Gooey and Keni Tent.) with the little kids. Plain Jane got her girls out and only he and Warrior 3 was left playing. I was in the kitchen making quesadillas then I hear the KING yell from the top of his lungs telling someone to "GET OUT! GET OUT! NOW!" In my head "What is going on?". I was shocked! A little embarrassed that the King was yelling ...the whole camp probably heard. What are these people thinking and so forth. So at first I was like CHILL, Hon! I know you are stressed and under pressure...fireside is tonight you want things to be perfect...blah blah blah. To make the story short...this boy sat on Warrior 3 and was pinning his head down under the water. OMGosh. What if the King hadn't been there in front of our tent fixing the piano pedal? Would any of us ladies caught that? That was scary. Really scary. Remember.... to always watch our children! Family, friends and neighbor look after each other. Innocent play can end up hurting or even killing someone.
Going back....to camp stuff...Set up chairs, sound, light, piano and mic. Beautiful backdrop for Musical Fireside tonight. Chopped and prepped the ingredients for the King's Chili. Talked stories with Plain Jane, Kristen Tuifua and Erin Gnat as we chopped gimagous sausages, hot dawgs, bacon, celery and onions! (onoliscios! the winnah!) Some boys were sore from being in their wet shorts all day. Funny Kodak moment, isn't it Tita 96762. Movie night. Home Teachers (church movie) and Enchanted. Late night again for the kiddies.
7/17 Huwebes
Square Foot Gardening, 10 x 10 food storage, games and lunch by R. S. Kids played volleyball had to make them stop to go and eat lunch. Set up chairs. We had Dr. Shlachter come and brought his donkey and his horse for a FREE ride. The kids loved that. Well, not all. You see...some of my boys Warrior 2 and Warrior 3 were bored and played with the computer instead. (Daddy's computer). Warrior 2 was playing with the built in camera distorting his face with friend Darnel and Warriors 1 and 3. I was late for Yoga. Carnival in the evening. Games--mingle mingle and bonkers. Bounce house. Movie night. I forgot what movie.
7/18 Biyernes
Pancakes and sausages for breakfast! Hot cocoa and bread. Ate together with the Fktvs, the Keni's and the Gnats. The Keni Clan broke camp early. Finished and filled the pinata's. The ones that withstood the rain and wind. Made Musubis for lunch. The King received a phone call. His iPhone is in! He is smiling from ear to ear.
Ward dinner this evening. The King made a big spot of stew. Chopped meat and vegies for the stew. Butchered watermelons from the Keni's and Fktv's. Started an hour later. Showed slide show of the week's activities. A few shared their talents this evening. After dinner, Bro. Webber who teaches Physics at BYU-H brought and set up his big telescope and we were very fortunate to see Jupiter. Uh-huh. I saw it! It had 2 lines and 4 moons. Two on each side. And the Earth's moon has craters! For real! Saw it! Only at camp Cricket Field! =) Took a break...chit-chatted with Tita 96762.....she helped me clean and put the food away. Movie being shown....Iron Giant. (There should have been several people assigned for clean up committee). The children were beat. Fell asleep early.
7/19 Sabado
I slept in until 7:30. NO breakfast. We broke camp alright. Finally made it home at 12 noon. The house full of mess. Blankets, sleeping bags, pillows piled high in the living room. Junk all over! All this work for a week of fun and excitement. Took shower. Had a quick bite at McDonalds. headed to town returned generator which was rented...went to Blaisdell hoping to see the storm troopers and have their pictures taken..no luck. We were too late. Drove to Kahuku HongWanJi Temple....Bon Dance. Ate fried saimin, BBQ chicken and watch them people dance in a circle. We finally had the guts to join them after a few coaxing from the King. It was pretty fun. Monkey see monkey do until you get it right. My first time and the Gooey babes very first Bon Dance experience. The king joined us at the very last song. How did he know it was the last song? He speaks and understands "Nihongo." Served his mission in Japan for two years. Went home @ 10:30. What a week!
